Graduation day arrives and the first thing you think of is…what do I do now after graduating?
It can be a scary realisation but it is also an exciting one. Figuring out what to do next can undoubtedly be a daunting prospect…so what are some of your post-university options?
TheGrad is here to inform you and relax your mind…there are so many routes you can take; the world is your oyster. Everybody’s journey is unique to them so you cannot compare yours with someone else’s. You could perhaps apply for a grad job, set up your own business, volunteer somewhere or travel the globe. What is it that makes your nerve stand on end? What stimulates you?
You could get a ‘Graduate’ Job
The majority of graduates opt to apply for a graduate job almost straight away after graduating. A lot of other graduates like to apply for jobs beforehand to warm up employers. Many employers will like the idea of a graduate applying for a job in advance as it shows a keenness to work and put the skills learnt from a degree into practice straight away. TheGrad offers the chance for graduates and even students to register and start browsing for a job immediately, for free, so register with us today to take full advantage of our unique service, bespoke to your needs.
You could start your own Business
Thinking of becoming self-employed? It is a very exciting endeavour, especially upon graduating. Take a leap of faith and pursue your dream business by creating it yourself. If you’re struggling to find your dream job for example, why not make it happen? One of the first things you need to do when deciding on your own business is establishing what it is that your niche market is. Next, you need to build a team of people who wish to pursue the same dream as you do, and are ready to jump on-board to help you create it. You then need to make a business plan, together, by outlining all of the company goals and a realistic 5 – 10-year plan. Once this is done, all financial requirements can be pinpointed and then you will need to think outside the box, as a team, to raise the funds for your business. You could find the financial gains through investment or through investing in yourself. This means that you may have to run a side job to help pay for your Start Up but after a while, you can quit (once your business is up and running and earning money of course).
You could continue your Studies
Did you really enjoy studying? After graduating you may feel a little empty – where have the last three years of my life gone? You may ask this to yourself. Don’t worry! There are so many post-graduate courses all over the country and even the world that you can opt to study. By furthering your studies you’re allowing yourself to heighten your knowledge even more, which will eventually put you above the rest of others in the same field as you. If you have a real desire to study a particular aspect of your undergraduate degree in real depth, then studying a Masters may be the right road for you.
You could take a ‘Year Out’
Backpacking the world may make you much more employable in the long-run. If you wish to embark on a whole new adventure by travelling the globe, learn new languages and experience new cultures, then meet new people and even work abroad on a gap year. Back-packing gives you an edge that is unique, it shows that you are an interesting and brave candidate that will have a whole realm of life experiences to share. Taking the time out to travel shows maturity, good organisation skills and planning as well as self-sufficiency. Create your very own action plan for the places you want to go to and then start saving. You may have to get yourself a part-time job for a while or even work full-time to get the money quicker, and then when it’s the right time you can jet off into the world.
Whether it’s studying a post-grad degree or travelling the world, you can choose whatever road you wish. Speak up, act up and live the life you deserve. No matter what you do – whether you’re applying for a new job, studying more or travelling, never stop learning!
