‘You are who you associate with’ – be careful who you spend time with as you may find yourself being very influenced by other people, so find the right people. As a student or graduate, it can be very tricky to not be influenced by others especially when you’re studying with so many people.
Choosing the right circle of friends is key to success, in any direction you seek. For example, if you are seeking study friends, then connect with people who take their education seriously. If you are looking to be around people that make you laugh, people you would consider as ‘true friends’, then build relationships with people, get to know them and spend decent quality time connecting. Build bridges with people from different walks of life – you never know what you might learn and who you may meet so don’t be afraid of talking to people.
Quite often we feel internal signals about certain people; something just might not feel quite right. When this feeling arises it’s probably happening for a good reason, listen and trust your intuition; it’s often right. Getting side-tracked can happen fast and before you know it you could be totally off-track. The most important thing is to protect yourself and become the best version of you, so you can truly give back to the world and build a life that you wholeheartedly want and deserve.
Never settle for ‘second best’ or for something that will ‘just do’. Remember, there is only one of you so give it your all, give it your best shot in all that you do. Learn new things as often as you can because as you increase your knowledge, you grow as an individual. Whether you’re studying or working for a company, grow your skill-set as much as possible. One of the wisest things to do is to build your personal brand, the assets that you possess that give you a qualitative edge over others. Never stop building and widening your horizon in all aspects of your life.
Choose to be around the right people and make sensible decisions. Don’t get distracted or encouraged to do the wrong things by ‘others’ – choose who you spend your time with and if possible, choose to be around people that you can learn from, that will better you as a person…
